About the Faculty Senate
The Faculty Senate serves as the representative voice of the faculty at Luna Community College. Its purpose is to promote effective communication among faculty members and between the faculty and college administration. The Senate also encourages collaboration, supports instructional excellence, and fosters leadership, professional growth, and community engagement.
Responsibilities
The Faculty Senate provides leadership and recommendations on matters related to the instructional mission of the College, including:
- Institutional long-range planning, goals, and strategic initiatives
- Curriculum development and outcomes assessment
- Organization of the College to support its instructional mission
- Development and effective use of instructional technology
- Academic standards and policies
- Faculty recruitment, appointment, evaluation, promotion, and termination policies
- Faculty responsibilities, workload, and evaluation
- Faculty grievance procedures
- Faculty professional development
- Regulations affecting faculty and instructional programs
- Student advising and retention initiatives
- Faculty compensation, benefits, and leave policies
- The balance of full-time and part-time faculty
- The adequacy of student services and administrative support for instruction
- Faculty Handbook updates and revisions
- Participation in the faculty hiring process
- Other matters related to the College's instructional mission
Meeting Schedule
The Faculty Senate meets virtually via Google Meet on the second and fourth Friday of each month, from 1:00–2:30 p.m., during the Fall and Spring semesters when the College is in session.
Meeting invitations, including the Google Meet link and agenda, are distributed to faculty on the Tuesday prior to each meeting.
All full-time and part-time faculty are welcome and encouraged to attend.

- Be added to the meeting agenda to address the Senate, or
- Request that an item be included on the agenda,
please contact the Faculty Senate Chair or Secretary.
For department-specific questions or concerns, faculty are encouraged to first contact the Faculty Senator representing their department.
