Luna Community College scholarships available;

deadline to apply is June 2

Luna Community College has several Roadrunner and Horizon Scholarships that are still available for the 2008-2009 school year.

Applications for all scholarships are available at the Luna Community College Student Financial Assistance Office. Applications must be postmarked or received by the LCC Student Financial Assistance Office by Monday, June 2.

“I wanted to remind the public that at most colleges the deadline for scholarships is in early May, here at Luna Community College we extend the deadline for about a month,” said LCC Financial Aid Director Regina Madrid. “I wanted to clear up any confusion that may be out there.”

All scholarships vary in eligibility requirements ranging from incoming freshmen to students already enrolled at Luna Community College. All eligible individuals are encouraged to apply for Luna Community College’s Roadrunner and Horizon Scholarships that are currently available for the 2008-2009 school year.

“We encourage all eligible students to apply and take advantage of the resources Luna Community College has to offer,” says LCC Financial Assistance Director Regina Madrid.

 There are approximately 30 Roadrunner Scholarships that will be awarded for the 2008-2009 school year. The Roadrunner Scholarship covers tuition and fees.  Any student enrolled in an eligible degree or certificate program at Luna Community College is eligible. Applicants must have a cumulative 2.5 or higher grade point average and have completed at least 15 credit hours at Luna Community College.

The Horizon Scholarship is available to graduating high school seniors as well as continuing Luna Community College students. Graduates from the following school districts will be considered: Las Vegas City Schools, Maxwell Municipal Schools, Mora Independent Schools, Santa Rosa Consolidated Schools, Springer Municipal Schools, West Las Vegas Schools or Wagon Mound Public Schools. Fourteen $1000 scholarships will be awarded for the 2008-2009 school year.

Incoming high school graduates must have a cumulative 2.5 grade point average or higher based on a seven-semester transcript.

Nine $1,000 Horizon Scholarships are available to any student enrolled in an eligible degree or certificate program at Luna Community College. Applicants must have a cumulative 3.0 or higher grade point average and have completed a minimum of 20 credit hours at LCC.

Applications for all three scholarships are available at the Luna Community College Student Financial Assistance Office. Applications must be postmarked or received by the LCC Student Financial Assistance Office by Monday, June 2.

ADDITIONAL SCHOLARSHIP

The Hispanic College Fund scholarship programs are currently open.

Eligibility Requirements –
Students must…

• be Hispanic
• maintain a 3.0 Grade Point Average (on a 4.0 scale)

• be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident

• reside in the U.S. or Puerto Rico

• be a current or rising undergraduate (some programs accept grad. students) student or a high school senior enrolling at a college or university in the U.S. or Puerto Rico

• demonstrate financial need

**** Some HCF Programs also require that a student be pursuing a certain area of study.

**** Students studying Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Pharmacy and Nursing are highly encourage to apply.
