Please read the following Student Email Acceptable Use Policy before activating your account:

Student Email Acceptable Use Policy

This Student Email Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) applies to all College staff (including temporary staff), visitors, contractors, students and researchers of this College and to those using the College's IT resources.

General Principles

  • Use of email by College students is permitted and encouraged where such use supports the goals and objectives of the College. Email is to be used in a manner that is consistent with the College's standards of business conduct.
  • The College will directly access student email accounts in the pursuit of an appropriately authorized legal or disciplinary investigation.
  • Use of email may be subject to monitoring for security and/or network management reasons. Users may also be subject to limitations on their use of such resources.
  • The distribution of any information through the College's network is subject to the scrutiny of the College. The College reserves the right to determine the suitability of this information.
  • The use of computing resources is subject to US law and any illegal use will be dealt with appropriately.

Unacceptable Use or Behavior

It is unacceptable to:

  • Send or receive any material that is obscene or defamatory or which is intended to annoy, harass or intimidate another person.
  • Represent personal opinions as those of the College.
  • Upload, download or otherwise transmit commercial software or any copyrighted materials belonging to parties outside of the College, or the College itself.
  • Reveal or publicize confidential or proprietary information.
  • Use of email in any way that violates Luna Community College's policies, rules, or administrative orders.
  • Excessive personal use of Luna Community College email resources. Luna Community College allows personal use of student email accounts so long as it does not consume more than a trivial amount of resources.

Monitoring

The email systems and services used at Luna Community College are owned by the college, and are therefor its property. This gives Luna Community College the right to monitor any and all email traffic passing through its email system.

  • The College maintains the right to access user email accounts in the pursuit of an appropriately authorized investigation.
  • Email account transactions will not normally be monitored by staff unless there is a suspicion of improper use.
  • Automated monitoring tools may be used to detect improper use.
  • Action as deemed appropriate by IT management and, if required, other representatives such as the Director of HR or School Dean may be taken.

Account Activation/Termination

  • Student email accounts will become available for activation as soon as the student is admitted to the College.
  • All students who activate an Luna Community College student email account are required to read and accept this Student Email Acceptable Use Policy.
  • Email accounts will normally be deleted if the student has not registered for classes in over a year.
  • Luna Community College reserves the right to terminate student email accounts at any time and for any reason.
