Free wood available for San Miguel residents who have been impacted by wildfires

Luna Community College in partnership with the U.S. Forest Service, New Mexico State Forestry, Help NM and the New Mexico Forest and Watershed Restoration Institute is providing free wood for individuals in San Miguel County who have been directly impacted by the Hermits Peak/Calf Canyon wildfire and are over 60 years of age.

The free wood is housed at Luna’s main campus in Las Vegas, N.M. behind the armory across the City of Las Vegas’ firing range (47 Gunnar Trail/State Road 144).

San Miguel County residents will need to provide a valid identification of age and residency (such as a driver’s license, utility bill or a document showing a physical address) and must sign an injury waiver form.

Individuals can pick up one cord per household and will be expected to arrange to load their own wood.

The wood can be picked up from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday, March 2 and Friday, March 3.

Please call Jesse Gallegos at Luna’s main campus at 505-454-5367 or Matt Griego at 505-454-5334 for more information.
