Luna Community College’s Criminal Justice program is designating a Crime and Justice Week, from Monday April 14 to Friday, April 18. A multitude of activities have been planned for the week, including: inviting criminal justice professionals to speak to specific criminal justice classes, a campus-wide sidewalk chalk project, and a criminal justice related movie night.
“This not only provides our students an opportunity to network with various criminal justice entities, but also allows them to promote the criminal justice program through education and awareness activities,” said Cindy Armijo, criminal justice faculty member and advisor. “The educational foundation of this program has successfully prepared graduates to pursue bachelor’s degrees and gain employment within fields related to criminal justice.”
On Thursday, April 17, the LCC Student Activities Office will sponsor a Law Enforcement Day, scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the LCC Cafeteria Courtyard. All students, staff, faculty and community members are encouraged to attend.
Among the entities expected to participate are: Las Vegas City Police, Santa Fe Police Department, New Mexico National Guard, Gallinas Fire Department, Guadalupe County Correctional Facility, New Mexico State Police, Mora County Sheriff’s Department and the U.S. Secret Service.
“Many of these agencies are looking to hire,” LCC Activities Coordinator Melissa Lopez said. “We encourage everyone that is interested in the Luna Community College Criminal Justice Program to come out and see what employment options there are.”
Refreshments will be served.
